The First District in the County Legislature contains parts of eastern Brookhaven, northern Southampton, and all of the townships of Riverhead, Southold, and Shelter Island. In Brookhaven, the First District encompasses parts of Manorville and Eastport.

Catherine Stark, a lifelong Republican, has been a legislative aide to Legislator Al Krupski (D-Cutchogue) for nearly all ten years of his tenure. Stark has also served in the office of the Clerk of the Legislature, as executive assistant to the Director of Real Property Tax Services, and served in the administration of former County Executive Robert Gaffney (R). She also served as a legislative aide to then-Legislator, now-Southampton Town Supervisor Jay Schneiderman (D).

Stark’s knowledge of county government from the ground up trumps that of her opponent and her ability to represent the same seat once held by Ed Romaine will be facilitated by her decade-long work with outgoing Legislator Krupski. The transition from Krupski to Stark will be a seamless one.

The Messenger endorses Catherine Stark for Suffolk County Legislature, District One.

The Messenger’s forecast for this race: Leans Republican (Flip).
