New York Jets Quarterback Mike White showed up after QB Zach Wilson’s demotion for Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears with a 31-10 win.
As Wilson watched the game from the bench with a hood over his head, White was unstoppable. He completed 22 out of his 28 passes and never lost sight of the endzone.
This grand win comes after the gut-wrenching loss against the New England Patriots in Week 11— where Wilson gave the worst performance of his career. By the end of the game, fans in the stands cheered for the “new” QB, “Mike White! Mike White!”
White has a 75% completion rate, 300 passing yards and 3 touchdowns within his first four career starts. He is the second QB in the NFL to accomplish this— the first being Kurt Warner (1999). White did this in Week 8 against the Cincinnati Bengals in his first career start last season.
“Electric,” linebacker C.J. Mosley told ESPN in regards to White’s performance.
“Helluva game, man,” tackle Duane Brown also told ESPN. “He commanded the offense really well. Made timely decisions, made some big plays at some critical moments. Great poise. Great day for him.”
During a post-game interview with FOX Sports, White’s teammates jumped on top of him, celebrating the win and the emotions were high.
Though White will almost certainly start in the Jets week 13 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings, head coach Robert Saleh isn’t officially committing to Mike White.
“It’s exactly what I talked about last week in my press conference,” Saleh said. “It’s a week-to-week deal. The full intent is to get Zach ready to play football again. I’ll make that decision when I’m ready. While we’re going through this process, it’s Mike White’s opportunity to take advantage of every last play he gets.”
Jets fans are over Wilson’s arrogance and immaturity, on and off the field, and are welcoming White with open arms.
“If Mike White doesn’t start next week, I don’t watch the game,” one fan commented on the New York Jets Instagram.
“See what happens when we put in a good QB,” another commented.
The Jets are set to play a tough team, the Minnesota Vikings (9-2), on Sunday at 1 p.m. where they will look to continue their road to the playoffs for the first time since 2010.
