Holding a management position in New York’s largest municipality by area is already a difficult task, but managing the 3,700 miles of road that come with it is even more challenging.
Incumbent Superintendent Dan Losquadro (R-Shoreham) has faithfully served in this position for ten years. Losquadro’s early professional experience in a family mechanic shop, then as a construction laborer, and later as an insurance agent, including, but not limited to, automotive claims, pairs excellently with his legislative experience, first as a County Legislator from the Sixth District for seven years and then as a State Assemblyman for two years.
Losquadro inherited a neglected department in 2013. He worked on upgrading the fleet of trucks, digitizing the office environment, and boldly lobbied the town for massive increases in funding for the Highway Department. Losquadro’s rank-and-file experience has lent him the knowledge of a flush operating budget and his legislative experience has allowed him to understand where to obtain grant money to save taxpayer money.
Perhaps one of Losquadro’s most revolutionary contributions as Superintendent was that of the Safe Bridges Act, prompted by the much-needed renovation of Hospital Road Bridge. Championed by then-Congressman Lee Zeldin (R-Shirley), the act allowed for federal money to flow directly to a local municipality for infrastructure for the first time.
Losquadro has the correct practical, fiscal, and political acumen required for this position.
The Messenger endorses Superintendent Dan Losquadro for Brookhaven Highway Superintendent.
