The St. James Holiday Market and live nativity took place on Saturday, December 10 from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. It was the first year for this event, said Jimmy Sauer, of the St. James Lutheran Church, where the event was held.
Outside, visitors were able to see a live Christmas nativity, complete with the holy family, wise men, and live sheep and donkeys, while children were hovered around the petting zoo, provided by Long Island Pony Parties.
The event was sponsored by the St. James Civic association, where 40 vendors displayed their wares inside the circus style heated tent. “We’re expecting a nice crowd today,” Tracy Ann of the Association said ahead of the event. “There is plenty of hot chocolate and other snacks set up to enjoy.”
Indeed, inside the heated tent, there were numerous crafts and displays, including cakes and breads, jewelry, holiday ornaments, snow globes, candles, gift wrapping, art work and much more. Live music was also provided.
Tracy explained that money raised by the event is then used by the Civic Association in an ongoing effort to support the St. James Community.
According to the St. James Civic Association’s website, www.stjamesny11780.org, their goal is to make the neighborhood a better place to live by continuing its efforts to keep the community safe, attractive and desirable. The website contains a history of St. James, various photos and a calendar of community events.
