Netflix’s ‘Falling for Christmas’ Marks the Much-Anticipated Return of Lindsay Lohan

-

Lindsay Lohan returns to our screens once again in Netflix’s new romantic comedy Falling for Christmas, acting alongside Glee star, Chord Overstreet.

The feel-good holiday film looks straight out of a Hallmark screenwriting class. As Christmas is just around the corner, two very different characters, going through the most difficult times of their lives, come together over the true spirit of Christmas (and Santa’s magic, of course).

Long Island native Lohan, who notably grew up in Merrick and Cold Spring Harbor before taking the movie world by storm as a teenager, plays Sierra, a spoiled and seemingly unforgiving millionaire who abruptly loses her memory in a skiing accident. Overstreet plays Jake, a single-parent and small Bed ‘n Breakfast owner struggling to make ends meet.

The film resembles a classic holiday tale that can make you cringe and cry at the same time. Though predictable, the film is also heartwarming and catapults us straight into the holiday spirit. The cheesy dialogue and character development feel overdone, yet my eyes were locked to the screen for the whole hour and a half.

Not-so-long-story short, the movie will feel as though you’ve watched it before, but you love it just the same.

After a long time away from the mainstream movie set and following some of her biggest hits like The Parent Trap, Freaky Friday and Mean Girls, the holiday movie seems somewhat out of Lohan’s norm. However, it seems to be exactly what the actress needed to get back into the game, reminding us how much we loved her in the first place. Falling for Christmas is currently ranked No. 2 in Netflix’s US’s Top 10, following Where the Crawdads Sing

Suffering sudden amnesia within the film, Lohan’s character and the longtime media-dragged actress herself each earn a sorely needed fresh start in Falling for Christmas. Since the film released to Netflix on November 1, Lohan has been busy on the press tour, conducting major interviews with Vogue, Jimmy Fallon, Good Morning America and more. Lohan has also teased that this isn’t a random one-and-done project. The actress has confirmed she is working on other projects in an Executive Producer role, including a Freaky Friday sequel on The Tonight Show last Friday, confirming “We [Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis] would both be into it.”

Lohan recently released her rendition of “Jingle Bell Rock,” which is featured in Falling for Christmas, as well. It is available on all major music streaming platforms, and nostalgically reminds listeners of her iconic Mean Girls dance scene.

As we await more from Lindsay Lohan and her next project, you can listen to her new podcast The Lohdown with Lindsay Lohan where she discusses her career, hardships and adventures with new guests each week.
