DINING WITH DEANA: Main Road Biscuit Co. in Jamesport

-

Located on Long Island’s North Fork, this farm-chic breakfast spot is a place you do not want to miss out on. Described perfectly on their website as “comfort food refined,” Main Road Biscuit Co. will leave you with a full stomach and your mouth watering for weeks to come.

The restaurant boasts a modern farm décor with galvanized chairs and reclaimed wood. I had the pleasure of meeting owner Marissa Drago, who started her farm-to-table business nearly six years ago. Drago was not only friendly and personable to her clientele, but it was also evident she had strong relationships with her employees as well.

The establishment, as stated in the name, is known for its biscuits. So, it was a no-brainer on what to try. I was served a cup of coffee from the North Fork Roasting Company that was smooth and delicious. I then decided to order two of the most popular dishes: the Biscuit Breakfast and the Crab Cake Bernie.

The Biscuit Breakfast came with two buttermilk biscuits and two eggs. I chose the bacon and hashbrowns as my side and asked for a side of the gravy, which was recommended by our server. The Crab Cake Bernie was another popular dish there that came with fried green tomatoes, lump crab cakes, poached farm eggs, maple bacon and classic hollandaise sauce.

Now I see why their biscuits are literally the talk of the town.

The biscuits were obviously the main component of the Biscuit Breakfast and were even better, in my opinion, smothered in the sawmill gravy with pork sausage. The gravy gave even more moisture to the soft biscuit and added such a rich southern flavor to this hearty dish.

I would have to say that my favorite was the Crab Cake Bernie. This took me by surprise, because I was never one to order something like this for breakfast. However, I trusted our server who was enthusiastic and knowledgeable. I just knew I had to try it.

The dish was placed in front of me, resembling a small tower that started with an opened biscuit. On each side was a green fried tomato, a crab cake and perfectly poached eggs smothered in classic hollandaise sauce and topped with crumbled maple bacon. Everything about this breakfast was delectable. Every flavor that I was afraid of being together, I learned, was made for each other.

These portion sizes were beyond generous and left us with no room to try any of the delicious sweets and baked goods that are on display. Rumor has it the chocolate chip cookie is one to write home about.

If you are ever making your way out to the wineries, or even just a trip to the North Fork, I highly recommend you kick it off with a stop at Main Road Biscuit Co. where you will leave more than satisfied, and eagerly awaiting your next visit.

Trust me, it’s the spot you’ve been looking for.
