Shots Fired on Hauppauge Middle School Grounds Thursday Night

Suffolk County Police announced Friday afternoon that a man had been arrested for firing shots from a handgun at Hauppauge Middle School during a dispute with his girlfriend.

A nearby security guard reported quickly to the scene on Townline Road in response to the initial gunshot. At which point, the perpetrator then fired in the guard’s direction as well. Nobody was struck during the scuffle that began at around 11:45 p.m.

Eventually found a short distance away by Fourth Precinct officers, the 27-year-old of Hauppauge was arrested and charged with two counts of first[1]degree reckless endangerment and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

The man was also later brought to a local hospital for evaluation. Police have yet to disclose his name.
