Bond vs. LaLota: First Congressional District Candidates Host Dueling Events with Primary Approaching

-

With election day fast approaching, the two leading Republican contenders for Congressman Lee Zeldin’s seat saw a flurry of campaign activity on August 17.

Nick LaLota attended a succession of events in the western half of Suffolk County. First, he appeared at a large gathering hosted by two of his old teachers from St. Anthony’s High School at the Nag’s Head in Huntington. Then, approximately 75 people attended a “meet the candidate” event held at the Ronald Reagan Republican Club in Commack. The latter event was RSVPed by all three candidates, with only LaLota in attendance.

“I’m truly honored to be able to speak before so many of my fellow Republicans who I know will support me in this upcoming election,” said LaLota.

Chances to speak before curious constituents are quickly disappearing as August 23 comes into focus. In a race decided by so few voters, every interaction counts and the cost per voter acquisition is bound to be exceedingly high as the race has become more expensive than originally predicted by some.

“Nick has been a friend of mine for many years and a dedicated public servant for even longer,” said Presiding Officer Kevin McCaffrey at the Huntington event. “As our next member of Congress, Nick will continue the fight for our families on Long Island. Nick will never forget that he is there to serve. “

Bond, likewise, attended her own event featuring United States Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas). Both Bond and Cruz spoke before attendees that were able to attain free tickets via Eventbrite.
