WFHS Senior Caden Lesiewicz Wins National Football Honor

-

William Floyd High School senior Caden Lesiewicz was recently named the James Conrad Metzger Top Scholar Athlete by the National Football Foundation Long Island Chapter and the College of Fame, Inc., for his achievements on the field and in the classroom. Caden will be attending Cornell University in the fall, where he will study in the School of Arts & Sciences, as well as kick for the Big Red football team.

Lesiewicz, who played multiple positions for the Colonials, was a dominant kicker who set the school record for the longest field goal, as well as played safety, running back, kick returner, punt returner and wide receiver during his three years as a varsity starter for the Colonials. He was a first-team All-Long Island selection in 2022 and a second-team selection in 2023 after missing time with a torn MCL. Lesiewicz, who owns an unweighted 97 GPA and earned a 1400 SAT score, is a member of the National Honor Society, student government and is a part of a community beach cleanup program. He is also graduating among the top 10 students of his class.

“Caden Lesiewicz is the epitome of a student athlete,” said Suffolk County Hall of Fame varsity head coach Paul Longo. “He is a great leader on the field, a great player and a tremendous student in the classroom.”

“I think it just means everything that I have strived for this year and worked toward,” said Caden. “I put in a ton of work on the football field, but I also take the classroom really seriously.”

About the National Football Foundation

The National Football Foundation (NFF) has been in existence since 1947 and is dedicated to promoting amateur football and honoring those individuals who serve the game. There are 120 chapters with more than 14,000 members all of whom are volunteers. The NFF is involved because they believe strongly in the positive role athletics can play in the development of today’s youth. The Long Island chapter has been in existence since 1995 and has been honoring scholar athletes for their athletic and academic excellence ever since. They honor one scholar athlete from each high school in Suffolk County and from that group, they select a “Golden Eleven,” representing the most outstanding student-athletes in the county. Finally, from the group, the coaches on the Selection Committee then vote on a Top Scholar Athlete who this year selected Caden Lesiewicz, which is a tremendous honor and puts him in a very unique fraternity.
