All canines and loyal human companions were invited to Pure Canine’s grand opening of its new store located at 523 Lake Avenue, St. James, on Saturday, June 22, with a ribbon cutting ceremony hosted by the Smithtown Chamber of Commerce.

Pure Canine, started by local residents from St. James and Smithtown, is the go-to destination for all-natural dog food, treats, toys and more. A haven for discerning pups and their health-conscious owners, Pure Canine prides itself in sourcing high-quality nutritional food with healthy ingredients for canines that are not only delicious, but also beneficial for a dog’s well-being.

The grand opening hosted activities throughout the day with music, face painting, raffles, giveaways, promotions, ice cream from Mickey’s Ice Cream (St. James), kids character ‘Bluey’, and, of course, fun for all furry four-legged friends including paw painting.

Hope for Cleo Animal Rescue was also on the premises with puppies available for adoption throughout the day. Hope for Cleo Animal Rescue in Smithtown, is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to saving abandoned and homeless animals from high kill shelter situations. Their primary focus is on pregnant animals, nursing mothers, and underage orphaned animals who are most at risk in overpopulated shelters.

Situated in the heart of St. James, this whimsical wonderland for canines is a family-run business owned by Butch Scarpinato and Steve Wisnieski. Butch is happy to call this St. James location on Lake Avenue, home.

“I’ve been a local resident all my life and it’s very rewarding to open a retail shop for dogs and dog-lovers,” said Scarpinato. “Dogs are part of the family, and we want to feed them the very best of nutritional value to have them live strong and healthy lives. Why feed your dogs anything less?”

Pure Canine offers local human-grade dog food and tail-wagging treates, CBD oil and dog supplements, a wide variety of jerkies and chews, Earth-friendly toys and accessories, raw foods and food toppers, and all-natural human-grade kibble.

Over one hundred attendees, including friends, family, and community members helped welcome Pure Canine to the neighborhood on Saturday. Smithtown Supervisor Ed Wehrheim (R-Kings Park), Councilman Tom Lohmann (R-Smithtown), Town Clerk Tom McCarthy (R-Smithtown), County Clerk Vincent Puleo (R-Nesconset), State Senator Mario Mattera (R-St. James), and Suffolk County Legislator Leslie Kennedy (R-Nesconset) also attended the ribbon-cutting.
