Strictly Business in Brookhaven

-

It really was Strictly Business happening at the Middle Country Public Library as the 2024 event of the same name took place on May 7. Over seventy-five local businesses gathered in their best trade show style to meet and mingle with other local businesses. Businesses have the chance to see how they can help, be helped or partner up with other small businesses. Many Chambers of Commerce and networking organizations were also on hand. This event and these groups are all designed to foster business connections and to benefit not only the businesses themselves but the communities they serve.

Strictly Business operates under the direction of Sophia Serlis-McPhillips, Director of the MCPL, Ryan Gessner, Assistant Director, Sal DiVincenzo, Coordinator of Digital Services and Elizabeth Malafi, Adult Services and Miller Business Center, partnered with the Brookhaven Coalition of Chambers, and additionally sponsored by TD Bank, Synergy Wealth Services, Holiday Inn Express Stony Brook, and Island Federal Credit Union.

You know it’s a great event when the same businesses come back year after year – it’s a must-attend for many, and the sense of camaraderie amongst the businesses is palpable. Where many want others to know about their own services, there was also a steady flow of shared wisdom between attendees. Conversations and suggestions especially from the more experienced and long standing businesses towards the newer start-up companies. There is an understanding that the cliche “a rising tide lifts all boats” is true.

Many vendors who offer services had the little giveaway items at their tables. Some had actual prizes to win. The Messenger raffled off four free weeks of advertising and the winner was Island Nights Outdoor Lights, a fairly young, local company off to a strong start. Kevin, Brandon, and Mike offer accent lighting for your house, yard, or business, and their specialty is even more unique lighting, such as permanent Christmas lights, perfectly placed, with a lifetime warranty, that can also be programmed to be different colors throughout the year. They can hang holiday lights on large trees or decorate any type of land or streetscape. Watch for their ads coming soon.

If you are a local business, connect (if you haven’t already) with your local Chamber of Commerce and mark your calendar for the many great business events that are held each year. It is good for business.
