Few candidates have the decorated background that Tom McCarthy (R-Smithtown) has. From managing security operations for national and international companies, protecting assets valued in the multi-millions, and working as a government liaison in the security sector, McCarthy has proven he has more than what it takes to be a steward of Smithtown’s records and “front desk” of the town government.

In what McCarthy describes as the “cover on the book” of local government, he demonstrates intimate understanding of the services offered by the Clerk’s office and has specific intentions for advancing the presence and services of the office, including, but not limited to, instructional how-to videos for residents, digitization of records, and community outreach efforts.

McCarthy’s opponent, while legally well-versed in town government, proves too argumentative for a role that isn’t political. McCarthy has the temperament to work cohesively with Town Hall.

The Messenger endorses Tom McCarthy for Smithtown Clerk.

The Messenger’s forecast for this race: Safe Republican.
