Law enforcement officials say one person died after their SUV plunged into the Bay Shore Marina last Thursday.
Suffolk Police identified the man to be 76-year-old Brentwood resident Albert Williams. Officers responded to a 9-1-1 call after the caller said they saw a vehicle in the water at around 6:20 p.m.
Bay Shore Fire Chief Roy Ekelund Jr. said he arrived at the scene and found the officers pulled Williams and his 2020 jaguar SUV out of the water, and took the victim to Southside Hospital where he was pronounced dead. He was found alone in the vehicle.
Ekelund said 20 firefighters and 4 divers from the department were also at the scene to find any other possible victims.
“We were unsure if there was a second or third victim,” he said.
According to police, no other bodies have been found.
“It’s really disheartening to hear of something like this,” said Bay Shore resident Gabriella Rodriguez, 25, said. “I run by the marina everyday and knowing someone died here is just really heartbreaking.”
