FDNY veteran of 21 years, William P. Moon II, 47, died in a tragic training accident on December 12 after succumbing to severe head trauma in Brooklyn, New York. However, even in death, Moon saved five lives through organ donations.
βIt gives me great pride and comfort to honor his wishes,β reads a tweet by Kristina Moon, the late-fire fighterβs wife. βWhile he is not here with us physically, he will forever be saving the lives of others.β
Live on NY, an organ donation charity, wrote on Twitter, βHe was a hero in life and is now a hero in death who will live on through #organdonation.β
Moonβs wake is scheduled to take place from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on December 28 at Chapey Funeral Home in East Islip.
His mass will take place on December 29 at St. Patrickβs Roman Catholic Church in Bay Shore at 11 a.m.
Aside from serving in the FDNY, Moon volunteered with the Islip Volunteer Fire Department in East Islip, where he was previously chief.
On December 21, the Islip Fire department honored their late member through a heavily attended procession to give Moon a heroβs welcome.
