At the Annual Directors Reception of the Islip Arts Council, the Council honored Senator Phil Boyle, Christine O’Malley, and Debra Cavanaugh for their continued support of the arts in Islip.

“These leaders have supported the arts and advocated for IAC’s culturally responsive, high-quality programs, in varied artistic disciplines to diverse populations throughout the year,” reads a prior newsletter of the organization.

Past president of the Islip Arts Council and current member of the board of directors Christine O’Malley was honored for her nimble, strong and decisive leadership exhibited during the COVID pandemic. Despite the numerous, unprecedented circumstances facing the organization, O’Malley helped “to keep the arts alive in our community when it mattered most.”

“The Islip Arts Council is a family of passionate creative individuals who have given generously of their time to bring the arts to our diverse Islip Community,” O’Malley stated. “It is an honor to be a member and a friend.”

Nearing retirement from his current post, Boyle was thanked for his commitment to the organization as both an assemblyman and senator. While in Albany, his tenure is marked by fiercely advocating for the arts in Islip. He also utilized his connections to call school administrators, business leaders and fellow politicians to aid the organization’s endeavors.

A retired mathematics teacher, Cavanaugh was instrumental in introducing arts programming sponsored by the Islip Arts Council to the Central Islip School District. This year, the exhibition the council put in the district featured 50 works of art. Cavanaugh is also involved throughout Islip, participating in numerous philanthropic and local causes.

The gala was immersive, captivating attendees with a wide array of performances as well as the well-curated gallery.

At the moment, the Small Works show is on display at the gallery, with paintings for sale. The Small Works exhibit shows pieces between 2’’x2’’ and 14’’x14.’’

Lori’s Dance School, Bay Shore High School, Brentwood High School and St. John the Baptist High School all had groups perform at the event.
