Suffolk Marathon Raises $800,000 Over Lifespan

-

Over the weekend on October 22 and 23, the Catholic Health Suffolk County Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K & 5K, was held with proceeds going to Veteran organizations. With this year’s race, the total amount raised is now in excess of $800,000.

“I started the Suffolk County Marathon back in 2015 as a way to give back to the more than 90,000 veterans who call Suffolk County home,” said Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone (D-Babylon). “In Suffolk, we feel a strong obligation to provide the best services and support possible when our veterans return home, and the Marathon has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars since its inception.”

County Executive Bellone has run in every Marathon since its inception in 2015, except for 2021, when he was diagnosed with COVID-19.

“It was a great experience being able to help our veterans who have sacrificed so much for us,” said Legislator Steve Flotteron (R-Brightwaters). “These events are paramount to continue raising money to help those who gave selflessly for our country.”

The Suffolk County Marathon & 1/2 Marathon courses are certified by USA Track and Field, making the Marathon course a Boston Qualifier, drawing a unique mix of competitive and fun runners.

“I signed up to do a one-mile walk in the legislative relay,” said Legislator Leslie Kennedy (R- Holbrook). “In a true miracle, I finished a few short feet of three miles! It was a fun team effort to support a fabulous cause – our Veterans!”
