Successful ‘Polar Plunge’ in Patchogue

-

The Patchogue Young Professionals held their second annual Patchogue Plunge this Super Bowl Sunday, February 13!

Over 150 brave souls came out on a perfect snowy Sunday to take the plunge and show their support. Before the wings, beer and football, courageous plungers – including Councilman Neil Foley, County Legislator Dominick Thorne and numerous spectators – came to show their support for those ‘Freezin for a Reason!’

Check-in for the event started at 9:30 a.m. at Sandspit Marina for the 10 a.m plunge. The snow kept falling as cars piled in, and the crowd started to get hyped!

Bay Harbor Insurance provided hot chocolate for the plungers, and 50/50 raffle tickets were sold out due to the incredible turnout and generosity.

The Patchogue Young Professionals were proud to have raised $5,000 for the Gabby Petito Foundation, a non-profit organization founded by the parents of the late Blue Point native.

Gabby went missing while on a cross-country road trip that included visits to many of our national parks. After an intensive search, it was discovered that Gabby’s life was tragically cut short. The mission of the foundation is to address the needs of organizations that support locating missing persons and to provide aid to organizations that assist victims of domestic violence situations through education, awareness, and prevention.

President Stephen King said, “We have to give a very special thank you to our board member Benny Migs, who took the lead on this event. Seeing everyone push themselves out of their comfort zones to take the plunge as a community in support of the Gabby Pettito foundation is what makes these events so special.”

50/50 raffles will be available on site. Winners will be announced at the Tap Room defrost party immediately following the plunge.
