The Messenger Papers has extensively covered the malicious, political gerrymandering by New York progressive Democrats in Albany.
Led by Hochul, the one-party rule has managed to rig districts across New York in an effort to maintain their power in a changing state; a state that sees the devastation their leftist, liberal policies have created. No other District gerrymandering is as clearly politically motivated as CD-1. Congressman Lee Zeldin (R) has represented mid to Eastern Long Island in this District since 2015. Being the presumptive Republican candidate for Governor, he leaves the seat open for potentially epic primary battles between Republican and Democratic candidates that will culminate in one of the most important Congressional races in the country – a fight to hold onto one of the few remaining Republican strongholds in New York.
The presumptive Republican candidate for the newly redrawn congressional district will face attacks from all sides while trying to connect with new voters from across all 10 towns in Suffolk County, and even parts of Nassau County. With limited time, because of the newly redrawn District lines, the Suffolk County Republican Committee searched for candidates from all over the newly formed CD1 and voted unanimously to select Nick LaLota as the Republican party nominee for Congressional District 1. A decision that was supported by the Suffolk County Conservative Party.
“Nick LaLota is a Veteran and an Annapolis grad. He is a father and husband and he is committed to make his community better for all middle class families”, said Suffolk County Republican Chairman Jesse Garcia. “Just as he served on frigates and aircraft carriers, in defense of our nation, Nick LaLota will fight for the people of the first congressional district in Washington.”
LaLota, former Commissioner of the Suffolk County Board of Elections, is an Annapolis graduate, Navy Veteran and currently serves as Chief of Staff to the Suffolk County Legislature. He resides in Babylon with his high school sweetheart and their three daughters.
During his military career, LaLota saw deployment three times overseas. He was involved in combined operations with the natives of Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Brunei. He then shipped out to the Philippines for 12 months, supporting a joint special operations test in support of the war on terror. He was awarded numerous accolades and medals for his service.
Aside from his military service, LaLota has served his country on the public front as well. He has held numerous senior staff-appointed and elected positions on Long Island. The experienced lawmaker is an Amityville Village Board of Trustee, for which he’s pursued a fiscally responsible agenda – credited with creating four conservative budgets within the state’s tax cap, while receiving three credit rating upgrades.
LaLota’s foreign relations savy, local government involvement, and proven leadership skills make him the most logical choice for the Republican party as candidate for this highly competitive, politically-gerrymandered district.
Said LaLota, “Congressman Zeldin’s successor must respect Americans’ freedoms, understand the impact of national security decisions and have the courage to slash federal spending that is causing inflation— the hidden tax. I am humbled that leaders of the Republican and Conservative parties think I am the person for the job.”
Other persons have expressed interest in running for the seat, and a primary is not out of the question. But if the Republican party wants to hold this seat, the candidate they have selected has already placed them one step ahead.
