No Panic at This Disco: ‘Groovy’ Concert at the Nesconset Gazebo

-

The inaugural concert of the Nesconset Chamber Series went off without a hitch this past Tuesday. Rings of beach and lawn chairs, as well as towels and blankets, lined the outside of the Nesconset Gazebo. “That’s 70’s Band” played all the hits of the period and has been a staple at the concert series for many years now.

The excitement ran throughout the crowd, with some attendees getting into character. Executive Director of the Chamber Rachel D’Arpa arrived sporting a pair of psychedelic bell bottoms and an afro to mark the occasion. This marks D’Arpa’s first concert as Executive director. The concert is put on in conjunction with Legislator Leslie Kennedy (R-Nesconset) who helps secure grant funding for the concert.

The audience cheered and applauded with every song concluded with some audience members taking the opportunity to dance in the front of the gazebo. Even though the state has been reopened for some time, after over a year of seclusion there was definitely a pent-up desire to spend time outside with friends and family.

Several food vendors selling fair staples such as zeppoles, sausage and peppers and ice cream were there to the delight of everyone. And even if those vendors didn’t have what you were looking for, directly across the street from the concert are several restaurants. There was something for everyone.

“Let’s forget 2020 and cheer 2021,” said Smithtown Town Clerk Vinny Puleo, who said this to applause after the D’Arpa announced the lucky 50/50 raffle winner. The proceeds from the raffle will help Paws of War and other local charities.

State Senator Mario Mattera (R-Smithtown) was also in attendance and thanked legislator Kennedy and the Nesconset chamber for the hard work and dedication for putting together this yearly event. A complete concert series schedule is located on page eighteen.
