The San Remo Civic Association celebrated its tradition of supporting its community with a fundraiser at Napper Tandy’s in Smithtown this past week. The day was filled with food, drinks, raffles, and a whole lot of fun for the entire community.
San Remo is a quaint waterfront community in Kings Park that was established in the mid-1920s by the Smadbeck Corporation, which marketed the area—primarily to Italian American families—as a scenic, riverside retreat from New York City.
Initially designed for summer cottages, San Remo gradually evolved into a year-round neighborhood, nestled along the Nissequogue River. To preserve the community’s character and support its residents, the San Remo Civic Association was founded in 1926.
Over the decades, the association has played a vital role in maintaining the neighborhood’s private park and clubhouse, advocating for local improvements, and fostering a strong sense of community through social events, cleanups, and scholarships for local youth. Today, the Civic Association remains a cornerstone of San Remo’s identity, preserving its unique charm while continuing to serve as a voice for its residents.
This longstanding fundraising tradition took place this past Sunday, thanks to the full effort and dedication of the San Remo Civic Association’s board members and officers. One of the driving forces behind the event was Josephine Ferrara, who played a key role in organizing and executing the day’s festivities. With months of careful planning and preparation, Ferrara was committed to ensuring the event’s success—not only as a fundraiser, but as a meaningful and memorable gathering for the entire community.
Various items were raffled off throughout the day, including wine baskets, donated gift cards, beauty packages, and the grand prize—a 55-inch flat screen TV. A 50/50 raffle also generated $570, further enhancing the excitement and generosity of the event. The day was a tremendous success for all involved, showcasing the strong community spirit and dedication of the San Remo Civic Association and its supporters.
President of the San Remo Civic Association, Joe Johnson, addressed the crowd with heartfelt gratitude, expressing his overwhelming appreciation for the community’s support. He spoke sincerely about the importance of the event and the dedication behind it, concluding his remarks with a special thank you to everyone who attended, especially Josephine Ferrara for her hard work in organizing the fundraiser. Johnson was genuinely moved by the turnout, noting how it reflected the strength and unity of the San Remo community.
