Dominick Thorne’s (R-Patchogue) upset of then-Presiding Officer Rob Calarco (D) in 2021 was perhaps the greatest shock of the 2021 red wave. Now, with two years as a Legislator under his belt, Thorne is ready to return to Hauppauge to continue working for the Seventh District.
In just two years, Thorne took his community experience – supplied with over twenty-five years of EMS experience – and helped transform LD-07. With granular knowledge of every hamlet and village in his Patchogue-based district, Thorne has helped spearhead dozens of efforts to remedy the neglect of his predecessor, while also understanding the intricate and diverse communities he represents. From putting Gordon Heights on the map regarding commerce, safety, and support, to ecological solutions for Canaan Lake, to clearing blighted properties and replacing them with suggestions from community input, to increasing police presence in Blue Point and directing $10 million of sewer money to Patchogue, Thorne has demonstrated his comprehensive knowledge of community outreach and cooperation, while servicing each corner of his district.
Thorne’s professional background in EMS and public safety also led to his spearheading of an initiative to require police officers to carry epinephrine injectors (EpiPens) in their cars at all times, just one example of his common-sense legislation that benefits all residents of Suffolk County.
