The Town of Islip held a series of celebrations last weekend to officially kick off the Christmas season. In addition to Sayville’s Miracle on Main Street event last week, other parts of the Town – including Town Hall itself – were able to partake in some significant Christmas ribbon-cutting.

In Brentwood, residents were able to cash in on the newly-renovated Ross Memorial Park, which after years of decay and blight, was recently transformed into a welcoming fixture of the hamlet and has been given back to the community. The Park held Brentwood’s tree lighting, headlined by Supervisor Angie Carpenter (R-West Islip), Councilman John Cochrane (R-Brightwaters), Councilman Jorge Guadrón (D-Central Islip), and the President of the Brentwood Chamber of Commerce, Bruce Fabrizio.

“This is an incredible moment for our residents, the chamber and the Town, as we return to Ross Memorial Park and light this newly planted Christmas tree,” said Supervisor Carpenter. “May this tree grow as a symbol of Brentwood’s strength and resolve.”

At Islip Town Hall, the annual holiday market, parade, and tree lighting took place. Residents gathered to watch the legions of fire trucks, floats, and the guest of honor: Santa Claus. Before and afterward, spectators took to the holiday market set up in the parking lot of Town Hall, to purchase food, apparel, and holiday gifts from community vendors, local artisans, and food trucks.

Supervisor Carpenter, Councilman Guadrón, Councilman John Lorenzo (R-West Sayville), Councilman-elect Mike McElwee (R-West Islip), Islip Town Clerk Olga Murray (R-Oakdale), Islip Receiver of Taxes Andy Wittman (R-Sayville), Assemblyman Jarett Gandolfo (R-Sayville), and Suffolk County Legislator Steve Flotteron (R-Brightwaters) all joined with local leaders to light the Town Christmas tree.
