Trish Bergin (R-East Islip) won her first term in the 2021 red wave filling the seat of Tom Cilmi (R). Bergin has since been a reliable vote on holding the line on taxes and maintaining government transparency.

Bergin’s storied career in journalism as well as her years as an Islip Town Councilwoman give her a unique perspective in the Legislature, reading the fine-print of legislation and keeping spending responsible. Bergin’s home-rule advocacy regarding this summer’s sewer bills give us the confidence she will continue to represent her district accurately and not allow her residents to be financial support for East End residents.

We also find her efforts in fighting human trafficking within her district particularly commendable.

While Bergin’s opponent has decent community experience and clerical work from within the Legislature, and while he does live in the district, we believe the lion’s share of his time has been spent aiding Legislators from Babylon and the North Fork. Bergin has lived in the area she serves, both on the Council and on the Legislature.

The Messenger endorses Legislator Trish Bergin for Suffolk County Legislature, District Ten.

The Messenger’s forecast for this race: Safe Republican.
