Mr. Hawke Goes to Wading River

-

Amid experiencing renewed attention due to his rare villain turn in Disney+’s latest Marvel series endeavor, Moon Knight, actor Ethan Hawke has taken his Academy Award-nominated talents to Suffolk County.

Last week, the actor was spotted on the set of the upcoming Netflix drama film, β€œLeave the World Behind,” in and around Wading River. According to the Riverhead News Review, filming locations on Thursday and Friday included: β€œbetween East Wind Drive and Hulse Landing Road” on Sound Avenue and β€œbetween Sound and Youngs Avenues’ ‘ on Twomey Avenue in Calverton. A publicly available contract, per the Town of Riverhead, also confirms scenes shot β€œon Horton Avenue between Reeves and Sound Avenues.”

The cast and crew, which also features multi-Oscar winner Mahershala Ali (Moonlight, Green Book), Kevin Bacon, and fellow gold statuette recipient, Julia Roberts – though Roberts reportedly has no scene commitments in-town – have notably convened at Lewin Farms and Splish Splash, among other local hubs.

Leave the World Behind is an adaptation of a β€œtwo families brought together over the course of one tension-filled weekend” 2020 novel written by Rumaan Alam. The film’s director, Sam Esmail, is the inventive, uniquely gifted mind behind USA’s critical darling cyberpunk drama, Mr. Robot (2015-2019). Aside from his focal societally fortuitous contribution to the binge generation, Esmail also delivered an instant (hyper)cult classic with his big-screen debut in 2014.

IFC’s criminally underseen Comet, through perfected abandon of chronology, includes tour de force performances from Justin Long and Shameless’ Emmy Rossum (Esmail’s real-life wife) as an on-again/off-again item grappling with the fallout that comes when the passion pit runneth dry.

Additionally, Esmail directed the first season of Amazon Prime’s Homecoming, a well-received anthology based on the popular podcast of the same name.
