On June 8, Dress for Success Brookhaven donated new shoes, clothing, make-up and more to the Suffolk County Sheriff’s S.T.A.R.T. Resource Center. The S.T.A.R.T. (Sheriff’s Transition and Reentry Team) Resource Center offers a range of practical transitional services for people leaving the Suffolk County Jail, including employment assistance, connections to housing, treatment and mental healthcare, clothing, food, pandemic advice, and so much more. It is staffed by correction officers and human service volunteers from the non-profit community. Hundreds of individuals have visited the Center to meet with county correction officers since it opened in February 2020. The Resource Center is located on the grounds of the Yaphank Jail at 200 Glover Drive, Yaphank.
Supervisor Romaine said, “I commend Dress for Success Brookhaven for their generous donation to Sheriff Toulon’s S.T.A.R.T. Resource Center. The transition to life after incarceration is very difficult, so helping people get a good start on their future can make a big difference.”
Sheriff Toulon said, “The S.T.A.R.T Resource Center is really about protecting public safety by ensuring that the men and women who leave our custody have the assistance they need to move on and live law-abiding lives. I want to thank Supervisor Romaine and Brookhaven’s Dress for Success program for helping to support this important mission.”
