The Smithtown–Hauppauge girls swim and dive program solidified its status as one of the dominant high school programs in New York State this weekend, securing its second consecutive state championship and third state title in the past four seasons.

The title was anchored by a historic performance in the 200-yard Medley Relay, where Julia Lucca, Ellianna Esposito, Sarah Lucca, and Olivia Chiofolo captured their fourth straight state championship in the event. The quartet set a new Suffolk County record with a time of 1:43.43, an Automatic All-American standard that currently ranks among the top 20 fastest times nationally.

Individually, Sarah and Julia Lucca delivered strong showings in the 50-yard freestyle, placing fourth (23.42) and fifth (23.45), both earning All-American Consideration times. Sarah Lucca also repeated as state champion in the 100-yard butterfly, posting a time of 54.72 to claim her second consecutive state title in the event.

In the 100-yard freestyle, Olivia Chiofolo placed eighth with a personal-best time of 52.59, while eighth graders Ellianna Esposito and Sylvia Bonn finished 25th (54.68) and 30th (55.53), showcasing depth from the program’s underclassmen.

The team’s relay strength continued in the 200-yard freestyle relay, where Julia Lucca, Olivia Chiofolo, Avery Wilcox, and Sarah Lucca broke their own Suffolk County record with a time of 1:34.72 to win their second straight state championship. The performance qualified as an Automatic All-American time and currently stands among the nation’s fastest.

Julia Lucca added another individual title in the 100-yard backstroke, winning the state championship and breaking the Suffolk County record with a time of 54.06.

Additional scoring came from Ellianna Esposito in the 100-yard breaststroke, where she placed 11th with a time of 1:06.17, breaking a Smithtown record that had stood since 2007.

The meet concluded with a seventh-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay by Emma Cronin, Mia Barbero, Avery Wilcox, Ellianna Esposito, and Sylvia Bonn, who clocked a time of 3:36.76.

Avery Wilcox added a 30th-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle, while Veronica Acosta placed 31st in the 100-yard butterfly.

With the state title secured, the Smithtown–Hauppauge program has now completed its fifth consecutive undefeated season. The run includes 43 straight dual meet victories, six straight league championships, five consecutive county titles, and back-to-back state championships — a level of sustained excellence unmatched in the region.
