While there’s so many talented athletes on Long Island. It’s every once in a while that a district puts forth a talent like Ja’Quan Thomas. This past week Thomas, of William Floyd High School, was the offensive recipient of the prestigious fourth annual Greg Sarra trophy.

Ja’Quan has been a special talent since elementary school. A kid that stood out as soon as the opening whistle blew while also standing head and shoulders above the rest. Thomas was bigger, faster, more fearless and skilled than his opponents. He was and is the type of player that would just run over the defense if he wasn’t able to run around them. Back then, in youth football, William Floyd knew that they had a generational talent on their hands.

Thomas has had a high school career second to none. He racked up 4,986 total yards and scored 72 touchdowns for the Colonials. He scored at least one touchdown in each varsity game he played. Ja’Quan helped lead William Floyd to several league titles and Suffolk County division 1 championships. Thomas is a player that works hard and makes everyone around him better, all the time.

Regarding being handed this award as the top offensive player in Suffolk County by the National Football Foundation’s Suffolk chapter. Thomas is quoted saying, “Everything I achieved this season wasn’t just about my own talent, my own dreams or a drive to win. It came from the guys who rarely saw the field but cheered us on every single play. It came from the teammates who showed up to practice to play hard and give us the looks we needed to improve our game alongside theirs. I want to thank my family and coaches for their unwavering faith in me. Football has given me so much, a forever family an opportunities I’ll never forget.”
