CENTEREACH – On January 30, the new Sprouts Farmers’ Market in Centereach held its grand opening, marking the brand’s first location on Long Island.
What makes the grocery store unique is its positioning as a fresh, farmers’ market-style destination for everyday groceries, a concept that has become increasingly important to Americans in 2026 as more shoppers prioritize health, quality, and natural foods.
The location on Middle Country Road took over the former L.A. Fitness after it closed in January of 2025. Since then, things have been in the works for Sprouts’ grand opening.
Sprouts is a nationwide grocery chain with a strong presence in the southwestern United States, with its first location and headquarters in Arizona. The Centereach store is part of the company’s broader national expansion, as Sprouts aims to grow its footprint along the East Coast and expand its current 480-store locations. As of this year, the company operates in about 25 states and continues to expand into new markets.
Sprouts prioritizes fresh, organic products and offers a wide variety of specialty items, including bulk foods, vitamins and supplements, prepared meals, deli selections, bakery goods, and other natural products geared toward health-focused lifestyles. The store layout is designed to resemble a true farmers’ market, with an open-concept layout that draws customers in with a bright, welcoming atmosphere and fresh produce sourced in partnership with local and regional farmers, prominently displayed as soon as you walk in.
Another thing Sprouts prioritizes is a wide range of items that are inclusive to everyone with any food restrictions. Not only are organic products available, but plant-based options, gluten-free items, keto-friendly foods, and non-GMO products, all things that can be difficult to find in your typical grocery stores.
Many shoppers, myself included, might assume that higher-quality food comes with a higher price tag, but Sprouts works to challenge that notion. The store offers several ways to make fresh eating more affordable, with frequent deals and value options throughout the aisles. Shoppers can find specials like $5 sushi on Wednesdays, $5 freshly made deli sandwiches, and large, flavorful wellness bowls for under $10. Sprouts also offers a free-to-join Sprouts Rewards program, where members earn points on purchases that can be redeemed for exclusive offers and promotions.
The grand opening kicked off early in the morning with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and continued with a weekend-long celebration. The festivities included a pop-up party with a live DJ, vendors stationed throughout the store offering product tastings, and special promotions for shoppers. Exclusive giveaways were available for early visitors, with the first 200 shoppers receiving a complimentary goodie bag filled with specialty products and samples. The first 400 guests were also given a free long-stemmed rose courtesy of Falcon Farms Floral. Customers who signed up for the Sprouts Rewards membership could receive 20% off their purchase.
The manager for this location spoke with The Messenger and expressed his excitement about the location’s opening in Centereach, saying they are ready to show the community what they have to offer.
He shared that his favorite part of Sprouts is the prepared meals, noting that his family appreciates both the convenience and the freshness. For first-time customers, he recommended trying one of the store’s fan favorites, the coconut rolls. After sampling them myself, I can say they make for the perfect light and sweet treat.
The Sprouts Healthy Communities Foundation, the nonprofit arm of Sprouts Farmers Market, focuses on advancing nutrition education, improving access to healthy foods, and supporting health and wellness programs in the communities the company serves. As the new Centereach location begins to establish roots on Long Island, the foundation has already made a local impact, recently announcing a $325,000 donation to the Middle Country Library Foundation. The funding will help expand hands-on nutrition, gardening, and wellness programs offered through the library.
With this momentum, Sprouts has already announced plans to add two other locations on Long Island. The Town of Smithtown can expect a location later this year at Branch Plaza, where The Fresh Market was. Another location is set to open out West next year in Levittown, expanding the locations across Long Island.
With its focus on fresh foods, community wellness, and affordable healthy options, Sprouts Farmers Market is bringing a new grocery experience to Long Island shoppers. The store marks the beginning of the company’s local presence, with more locations already planned. For residents looking to shop for healthier options, try new products, or simply enjoy a farmers’ market-style atmosphere, Sprouts’ arrival in Centereach signals a fresh addition to the Long Island grocery scene.
