Suffolk County NY – Suffolk County Police Officer Thomas Joy was recognized this week for his dedication to serving and supporting the Muslim community in Suffolk County, receiving one of five honors presented during Muslim Appreciation Day at the H. Lee Dennison Building on December 8.
The Suffolk County Police Department announced the recognition in a post on its official Facebook page, noting Officer Joy’s long-standing commitment to strengthening relationships between law enforcement and Muslim residents. County Executive Ed Romaine, Deputy Police Commissioner Thomas Galati, and numerous law enforcement officials joined prominent members of the Muslim community for the ceremony.
Honorees were selected by the Suffolk County Office of Multicultural Affairs and Community Engagement, together with the County Muslim American Advisory Board, as part of an ongoing effort to highlight individuals who advance safety, inclusion, and partnership across Suffolk’s diverse communities.
Officer Joy received additional commendation from Suffolk County Legislator Sam Gonzalez, who praised his work with the Muslim community and his dedication to promoting wellness and inclusivity for all Muslim residents.
The event underscored the broader county initiative to strengthen trust between local government, law enforcement, and cultural communities through sustained engagement rather than symbolic gestures.
