Legislator Steve Flotteron for Suffolk County Legislature, District Eleven

Few Legislators have the budgetary and investment backgrounds that compare to that of Steve Flotteron (R-Brightwaters). Not only does Flotteron understand budgets and finance from a technical perspective, he understands every inch of the county’s budget and offers specific solutions on how to combat Suffolk County’s absurd cost of living.

Perhaps Flotteron’s greatest legislative accomplishment – at least this year – is that of his initiative to roll out the first-time homebuyer down payment subsidy to volunteer fire and EMS companies. The program was already extended to businesses of varying sizes, who could match a first-time home-buying employee’s contribution to a downpayment, while external grant money can kick in up to tens of thousands of dollars. Extending this program to volunteer frontline service workers is a phenomenal accomplishment and one that will help entice our youth to stay, live, and work in Suffolk County.

Chairing the powerful Budget and Finance and Public Safety Committees, Flotteron understands that affordability and public safety go hand in hand. Additionally, his work ethic takes the classic “win-win-win” method of pathfinding success to a new level he describes as “win-win-win-win-win-win-win.” Flotteron’s mantra is that there is no reason everyone cannot win, and we’re inclined to agree with him, not only on the basis of the idea itself, but also on his record and tenacity.

Flotteron’s opponent, Lucas Deitch (D), is not actively campaigning.

With that, it’s no contest: The Messenger endorses Legislator Steve Flotteron for Suffolk County Legislature, District Eleven.

The Messenger’s forecast for this race: Safe Republican
